JAPAN SUPER-HEROES

So, we were shooting footage for our promotional video before our tour when Vern says “Hey dudes, we've got to have anime/cartoon characters of the band for our Japan tour. They would totally love it over there.” We all chuckled and thought that sounded like a pretty wild idea, but me being somewhat skeptical of actually getting it done, I sarcastically said “Vern, if you can find someone to make really great characters of us within four weeks then by all means have at it, and they've got to be good.” What I didn't expect was for Vern, in total Vern fashion, to come to us with “Hey fellas, I found the guy. His name is Tex. He's talented and wants to do the characters for us and will do them within the next few weeks. Cool?” I'm normally very upbeat and ultra-positive, but since I can be guilty of being an artsy snob I thought that they would probably end up just being sort of okay and maybe we wouldn't end up using them because we're embarrassed by them or something. I really hate admitting that now, but anyway, Vern started showing us some sketches that Tex was working on and we started getting a little more pumped about this idea that Vern was so determined to bring to fruition. The sketches were very cool and we all got to approve the general idea and theme of our own character, which Vern mostly masterminded. The sketches were great, but still we were a little unsure of how they'd really turn out as a final product. That's when we got an email from Tex and the first character was sent over. We were totally blown away by the way this thing looked. Then, he sent the next character the next day, then another a following day and about a week before we left for Japan we had the below sketch which simply turned out killer. Plus, it's a really cool feeling having a super-hero cartoon of yourself. So, Vern, thank you for your persistence and Tex, thanks for creating these amazing illustrations!
